New EU Regulation on the placing on the market and use of animal feed

On July 2009 the European Parliament decided to amend the European Parliament and Council Regulation EC No 1831/2003 on the placing on the market and use of feed and to repeal former directives on the same topic with a new Regulation (Reg. EC No. 767/2009), according also to the updates of the procedures in matter of food safety.

New directives were established to harmonise the conditions for the placing on the market and the use of feed in order to ensure a high level of feed safety and thus a high level of protection of public health, as well as to provide adequate information for users and consumers and to strengthen the effective functioning of the internal market.

This Regulation lays down rules on the placing on the market and use of feed for both food-producing and non-food producing animals within the European Union, including requirements for labelling, packaging and presentation.
